The Northern Electricity Distribution Company of the Volta River Authority (VRA/NEDCO) in the Upper East region operational area has retrieved about GHC 7,984, 658.40 from defaulting customers for the past month. VRA/NEDCO in the region embarked on a mass revenue mobilisation exercise for the past one month with an expectation to retrieve Ghc125 million owed to the company by consumers in the region.

During a press briefing May 18, 2023, the Upper East Regional Billing and Revenue Protection Officer, William Asare said the company is excited that they have been able to mobilise such an amount through the exercise so far. He explained that defaulters who were disconnected and made payments have been reconnected to the national grid.

“We began the exercise a month ago with the aim of bringing a lot of revenue to sustain our business, as yesterday we were able to mobilise GH¢ 7,984,658.40. And for us we are excited, we are excited because when you look at our post pay revenue every month, every month we bill our post pay customers averagely about GH¢ 5.8 Million. So if within this period we have collected 7.9 Million what it tells us is that if we sustain it, at least we will be collecting our current bills and little of the arrears and the bills will not pay up so we are very excited.”

Mr. William Asare added that, “The outstanding balance is 125 Million as we indicated we wish we could have collected all of it by now but looking at the figures to collect 7.9 within one month we bill about GH¢5.8 million is very good for us”

Mr. Asare also explained that about 321 customers were arrested for illegal connections and they will be made to face the law in the coming days.
