The Upper East Regional National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has begun stockpiling relief items. The move is in anticipation of disasters that are likely to occur in the Upper East Region as the rains intensify.

The Bolgatanga Manager for NADMO, Ernest Adombire-Naba shared this information when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

He explained that the items that have begun arriving today would comprise roofing sheets, cement, food items, mattress among others. While all these items would not arrive on a single day, NADMO is confident that all necessary items would be received before any disaster strikes.

Mr. Adombire-Naba, speaking with Mark Smith also used the opportunity to address some concerns from the public concerning the distribution of relief items.

“We as an organisation, we look at the situation and see what you [as a victim] would need. That is why we call it relief. It is not something we are giving to you to sustain you for the whole year. It is just for relief so that further assessment would decide what should happen. For example, you don’t have a place to lay your head and we bring you food, after eating that food, where do you go? We have to look for shelter, that is why we always look for safe havens. We have identified places that in case there is a disaster and people are displaced, this is where we can take them to. Then after that, the immediate needs, for example, something to lay your head on is what is needed. Then, we provide that as well,” he explained.

He explained that it is in the interest of victims to cooperate with NADMO so that they can get all the support they need when disaster strikes.
