The Upper Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has revealed that significant progress is about to be made on the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project, following the completion of necessary preliminary tasks. Mr. Yakubu stated that the mapping of the proposed land area has been successfully carried out, and the official document required for the commencement of the project is currently awaiting gazetting.

In an interview with Mark Smith on A1 Radio, Mr. Yakubu expressed his confidence in the project, saying, “The naysayers, I am sure will not be able to sleep now because of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam; a lot of activities are happening there.”

He further explained that the government has completed the necessary land surveys, ensuring all the required areas have been identified for the construction of the dam. The completed map was subsequently submitted to the authorities for official approval.

Mr. Yakubu emphasised that the mapping process has been concluded, with all necessary signatures affixed to the document. He anticipated that the designated area would be officially gazetted, granting the government the authority to acquire the land required for the Multipurpose Dam construction.

According to the Minister, the World Bank has recognized the potential of the project and is interested in it. The positive engagement from the World Bank further highlights the projected benefits the region will receive from the dam.

“The World Bank people are very interested in the programme. They think that it is viable. They think that it is sensible to do something like that because of the benefit that the region is going to have. So, we are engaging them. It’s good news for us, and let’s all keep praying that the multipurpose dam is coming. And indeed, it is coming.”

The statement by Minister Yakubu was made during his interaction with Mark Smith on A1 Radio, providing an update on the progress and prospects of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project.
