With what can be considered unprecedented in the history of the Bolgatanga East constituency, many of people made of supporters of the New Patriotic Party, party executives, floating voters, and well-wishers on Thursday joined a parliamentary candidate hopeful for the Bolgatanga East constituency, Amoah Silas Mathew to submit his nomination forms.
The procession of the supporters of the businessman which lasted for about two hours starting from his house in Zuarungu to the constituency office and back, sent shivers down the spine of members of the National Democratic Congress – occupants of the constituency parliamentary seat. The crowd danced to the loud music including drummers and women groupings while cheering Mr. Amoah to showcase their enthusiasm and support for his candidacy.
Many people including the aged dressed in boldly printed T-shirts and Lacoste shirts of the businessman to indicate their readiness to support Mr. Amoah to emerge victorious in the parliamentary primaries and subsequently the general elections.
The NPP stalwart expressed his gratitude to the people of Bolgatanga East and supporters for their overwhelming support, describing it as unprecedented in the history of the constituency. He promised to work tirelessly to address the challenges facing the constituency and improve the lives of the residents if elected as the Parliamentary candidate of the NPP and Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East constituency.
“Every politician wants to see his people developed so I am basically in to see how best I can to help my community grow. It was a call from my mothers. From the youth, we have about two to three thousand people accompanying me to file my form. It has never happened in this constituency. It is definitely a wakeup call”, he said.
Amoah Silas Mathew mentioned that he is seeking the mandate of the constituents to become a legislature to further empower the youth and women of the area. He said had toured all corners of the constituency to delegates and the response was positive for him to win the parliamentary primaries.
Speaking about his chances of snatching the seat from Dr. Donimic Ayine Akuretinga, incumbent MP for the area, Mr. Amoah said the people of the constituency would elect him based on the track record of his contribution to the development of Bolgatanga East to what the MP has done.
The NPP parliamentary candidate hopeful also urged the people to remain united and peaceful throughout the electioneering process, emphasising the need to remain united to retain power after the general elections.
With the entering of Amoah Silas Mathew in the Bolgatanga East constituency, the NPP has been making significant inroads in the area in recent years, with growing support from the residents. Mr. Amoah’s overwhelming nomination form submission turnout is a testament to the increasing popularity of the party in the constituency.
Being the only person who has so far picked nomination forms and submitted them subsequently, it remains to be seen if Mr. Amoah can capitalize on this support and garner enough votes to secure victory in the upcoming parliamentary elections. But for now, the massive turnout and show of support are clear indicators of the momentum he has built in the Bolgatanga East constituency.
