The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahudeen Musah Al-Khomieni, has asserted that the chances of the National Democratic Congress maintaining parliamentary seats in the region have become slim after its primaries.
According to him, the ‘casualties‘ that occurred in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries, coupled with the “calibre of candidates elected” to represent the party in the 2024 general election, have given the party a lean chance of maintaining its seats.
He was of the opinion that the NDC, with 14 seats out of the 15 seats in the region, needed extra work in most constituencies emphasising that most of its candidates “were unpopular and only won the primaries as a result of financial inducement”.
Mr. Musah cited Navrongo and Nabdam constituencies as those the NPP had a better chance of snatching from the NDC. He added that “with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia winning the Presidential Primaries, hopefully this would augment the party’s strength in the Region.”
He made these assertions when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show with Mark Smith ahead of the NPP’s youth conference that took place over the weekend.
The youth conference, graced by high ranking personalities of the party, aimed at building the intellectual capacities of the young people to understand some of the government’s policies and market the party.
The youth organiser added that the conference, which targets the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) members of the party, would also create room for networking and establish relationships between the youth and some of the party personalities.
This, he said, was crucial in building, retooling, and mobilising members of the party to capture power in 2024.
