A parliamentary candidate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga Central constituency, Elvis Atiah Awonekai Figo has served notice to the Member of Parliament for the area, Isaac Adongo to start preparing to hand over the seat for the NPP in the next election.

Even though the NPP is making significant gains in votes in the constituency, the party since independence has never occupied the Bolgatanga central seat in parliament after several failed attempts.

It is against this backdrop that the Upper East Regional Secretary of government NPP, is optimistic about his chances of unseating the incumbent MP, Isaac Adongo in the coming general elections.

“Media people, tell honourable Isaac Adongo [that] his time is due. I am coming for him”, he declared.

With confidence driven by charged party supporters that joined him to submit the nomination forms, Mr. Atiah said winning the seat for the NPP will be based on his track record against what Mr. Adongo did when they both made their intentions known to contest their party’s parliamentary primaries.

“It is also about records; we will be analysing the records of Isaac Adongo against my records. When he came as a new entrant, the best he did for his party was to tile his party office. When he did that NDC [people] were excited and voted for him and he’s been there for 8 years. I’m also a new entrant. When I did my first round, the delegates told me that they were going to vote for me because they can see the employment opportunities [that] I have created for people in Bolga. Water has been sent to communities through my lobbying skills.”

He again mentioned his ability to get scholarships and appointments for many youths in the constituency and the region at large as what the constituents will look for in a candidate who will prioritise their needs and bring about real change in the area.

Elvis Atiah Awonekai Figo said this at Ramsey Park when he addressed party supporters who joined him in a float around the regional capital to submit nomination forms to contest the NPP parliamentary elections.

Mr. Atiah emphasised that the NPP has a solid track record of delivering on its promises and bringing development to the people of Bolgatanga Central, unlike the NDC. He cited various projects and initiatives that the NPP government has undertaken in the municipality, including the construction of roads, provision of healthcare facilities, extension of electricity to communities, and support for agriculture.

“2024 is about NDC records against NPP records and when we get to that one, we will beat them. We will analyse Bolga. The roads infrastructure, what we did, the NDC couldn’t do it. In every sector in Bolga central, in the Upper East, what NPP did, NDC couldn’t have done that”, he added.
