The National Democratic Congress’s parliamentary candidate for the Navrongo constituency, Mr. Simon Aworigo, has said that he is not bothered by comments that suggest he is unpopular and does not stand a chance of winning the seat in the 2024 general election.

According to him, such comments only come from people who don’t know him, and it was time to revise their notes.

Mr. Aworigo also denied allegations that he induced delegates to vote for him as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Navrongo Constituency.

“I am one of the people who don’t believe that you can buy votes. I find it very insulting when people think that you can buy people, and Assin North has shown a lesson to the entire political class that the people who vote for us are not stupid and that they know what they want,” he said.

“If they vote for you, don’t think you have bought them with your money; it’s because they believe you have something to offer them and to develop them. I don’t even have money that can buy a single person; I spoke to their issues and brought solutions that can address those issues to help Navrongo develop, and that has been my trump card”. He added

He said this when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 radio’s Daybreak Upper East show about some comments made by the Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Sulahudeen Musah, against his candidature.

Mr. Aworiga noted that winning  election in the Navrongo seat in particular was not about money, adding “If it was about money, then some of us shouldn’t have been in that race because there were individuals in the Navrongo Constituency and beyond who had money 10 times more than any of us who contested”.

He said the people are rational and only vote based on what a candidate brings, irrespective of the party.

The Parliamentary candidate said issues of fertiliser and poor roads were major concerns in the Navrongo constituency, and he was committed to offering his support to enhance development in the area.
