The Executive Director of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Thomas Kofi Alonsi has submitted his nomination forms at the party’s constituency office in Sandema to contest the Builsa North NPP parliamentary primaries. Speaking to the party supporters and well-wishers after submitting his forms, Mr. Alonsi highlighted his commitment to serving the people of Builsa North and his dedication to the constituency’s development agenda.

The NPP parliamentary candidate hopeful said his focus would be on bringing development and improvement to the lives of the people, rather than on party politics.

“We are not going to deal with NPP, NDC, PNC, or whatever, it is about the development of this municipality that is what I proposed to champion if together you rally behind me and on the 7th of December 2024, you vote for me to become your MP,” Mr. Alonsi stated.

The Builsa North constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the NDC and the incumbent Member of Parliament, James Agalga is working hard to retain the seat in the upcoming general elections.

But the Ghana Maritime Authority Executive Director believes it is about time the people of the Builsa North constituency give a mandate for other equally important persons to lead them in parliament before the MP becomes complacent.

“We can’t afford a situation where we have one person going to parliament at the end of every for years. We can’t afford that situation. Our own people tell us that when you keep water for too long, what happens to that water? It will smell. The same applies to a human being, if you leave a person in a position for too long, complacency sets in. The person begins to see his being there as a matter of right and therefore, your needs will not necessarily matter to that person. It is time to change”

The solicitor who once occupied the then-Builsa district as DCE believes that his experience and track record of service makes him the best candidate to represent the people of Builsa North in parliament.

“We haven’t gone there yet but we are doing a lot more for the people of Buluk. So, you can imagine, if you collectively will give me that power that makes me your representative, I am sure you know the many more doors that will open for you”, he added.

Thomas Kofi Alonsi entreated members of the party to bury the past and forge together as one to win the Builsa North parliamentary seat which was once won by Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia of the NPP. So far, only Mr. Alonsi has picked nomination forms and successfully submitted them to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Builsa North constituency.

Other members who joined the Ghana Maritime Authority boss to submit his nomination forms included, the former MP, Madam Chigabatia, Builsa North MCE, Madam Vida Anaab, Builsa South DCE, Daniel Kwame Gariba, electoral area coordinators, among others.

The NPP on July 11th opened nomination for parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party has no representation otherwise known as orphan constituencies. The closing of nomination is expected to be on Thursday 10th August and the elections are expected to take place from September to December 2023.
