The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly (BMA) has inaugurated the mechanical enclave on August 18, 2023, in the Kalbeo-Tindonsobilgo community near BOST. Funded by the World Bank, this initiative is poised to enhance the livelihoods of residents and nurture technical skills and innovation among the area’s youth.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Rex Asanga, highlighted the workshop’s purpose: creating an enabling environment for local mechanics to enhance their skills, work on modern vehicles, and remain competitive in a dynamic market. He further stressed its role as a hub for skill development, innovation, and entrepreneurial growth among the youth.

“Our aim is to empower the local mechanics and create a platform for them to become self-reliant,” he stated. “We believe that by investing in our local talent, we can unlock new opportunities for economic growth and development.”

The workshop will offer a comprehensive range of services, including vehicle maintenance, repairs, welding, and metal fabrication. This approach not only enhances mechanics’ capabilities but encourages diversification of skills and exploration of new markets. The facility is also accompanied by a new police post and a fire service post, to be manned by personnel.

Edmond Kolbil, Deputy Secretary of Garages Association of Upper East, expressed enthusiasm about the workshop. “This is a game-changer for us. With modern tools, we can provide better services and boost our income. It’s a dream come true.”

Local mechanics are expected to commence operations at the facility in the first week of September 2023. Asanga assured the youth and chiefs that the investment underscores the Assembly’s commitment to residents’ well-being and highlights the transformative potential of public-private partnerships.
