The 12 Mechanised Battalion has been established in Sandema, which serves as the capital of the Builsa North Municipality within the Upper East Region.

The military presence in this area is intended to address potential security threats and concerns arising due to the country’s heightened focus on security in the border region.

This initiative comes in response to the ongoing destabilisation caused by coup d’états and the escalating acts of terrorism within countries in the West African sub-region.

In addition to this, the deployment of the 12 Mechanised Battalion is set to complement the ongoing efforts of the 11 Mechanised Battalion stationed in various parts of Bawku, other border districts, as well as in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Region’s capital. This extension of military presence aims to cover a broader geographical area in the region.

“We currently have the 11 Mechanised Battalion in the Upper East Region. We have just established the 12 Mechanised Battalion stationed at Sandema to look at Sandema towards the Upper West Region, that entire enclave.”

“For the 11 Mechanised Battalion, we have our presence already in huge numbers in the Bawku enclave and then the Bolga station, we have so many people,” he said.

These developments were brought to light during a recent interview with Alhaji Abubakr Inusah, Chief Director of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, who spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

Alhaji Inusah further indicated that the military’s endeavours are receiving support through recent contributions of motorbikes and vehicles from the Ministry of National Security.
