The Upper East Regional Deputy Communication Officer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Andrew Atariwini, has asserted that the Vice president of the country, Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia, who is in the NPP flagbearer race, is gaining support from delegates because of his charisma.

According to Mr. Atariwini, it is not for nothing that members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) try to call out the name of the vice president on every given occasion. This, he noted, is because they understand that he is a threat to them and stand a better chance of winning the 2024 general elections.

He said assertions by the NDC and some of his opponents that government employees are being coerced to support the Vice President were untrue and must be treated as such.

” I believe that Bawumia will win in the Upper East Region and the flagbearer race not because someone is coerced but because of his track record, what he has done for this party, and what he represents. We in the Upper East have no reason not to support the likes of Bawumia”. He stated

“What I will preach to other candidates is that we should just see this as an internal democratic process, and when we are finished, we should be able to rally around because the breaking of the eight is a necessity for the survival of the party and the consolidation of whatever we have achieved”

He made these assertions when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show in line with the NPP superdelegates conference scheduled for August 26, 2023.

The Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, who was in the show with him, agreed to his assertion that the Vice President would emerge as the winner at the superdelegates conference and ultimately the flagbearer of the NPP.

He, however, rubbished his assertion that the vice president stands a chance of winning the 2024 general elections, arguing that the election is going to be based on records and the vice president does not come near the flagbearer of the NDC.

Mr. Abdallah Salifu also insisted that the government machinery is behind the vice president, with some appointees being coerced.
