The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has stated that the allegations of him mismanaging the police service and masterminding the recording of the leaked tape are wild and baseless.
According to Dr. Dampare, these allegations lack evidence and have caused immense pain to him, his family, and the entire police force.
“I, an innocent person focusing on my job, working in consent with my team and all commands across the country to keep the country safe, have been asked to come and answer these allegations, which are just wild and baseless, and I say to myself, this is not fair,” he stated.
His comment was in response to initial claims raised by COP George Alex Mensah, who accused the IGP of being responsible for the leaked conversation between senior police officers and former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu.
COP Mensah claimed that this information was obtained through intelligence and alleged that the IGP masterminded both the recording and the subsequent leak.
Police Superintendent George Asare, who also appeared before the parliamentary committee, aligned himself with COP Mensah’s suspicions.
In response to these allegations on Tuesday, September 12, Dr. Dampare maintained that these accusations brought forth without evidence have placed an unjust burden on him.
