The Navrongo Magistrate Court has remanded a 30-year-old man and his wife for allegedly stealing power cables belonging to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL). Mr. Felix Amoah, a mason, and his wife, Asamsia Kadoa, a seamstress, were arrested by the police on Saturday, October 13th, 2023, for allegedly stealing a total of 1 km of power cables valued at Ghs 180,000.

According to officials from the Ghana Water Company Limited, the power cables were used to connect electricity, which powered their mechanised boreholes. Due to the construction of the Tono water project, the mechanised boreholes have not been functional, but the cables were still used to supply electricity to sensitive areas of their operational zone. The two accused persons appeared before the magistrate court on October 17th, 2023.

Mr. Felix Amoah was charged with stealing and causing unlawful damage to public property, while his wife, Asamsia Kadoa, was charged with aiding and abetting stealing. The police prosecution requested more time to conduct further investigations, and the judge remanded the man to police custody, while the wife was granted bail on the grounds that she was a nursing mother. She was granted bail on the condition of Ghs 10,000, with two sureties to be justified. The case was adjourned to October 24th, 2023.
