Reports from the Garu District in the Upper East Region indicate that over 200 residents have been brutalised by the military without any clear motive. Thomas Anaba, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the area, confirmed these distressing details to A1 Radio’s Moses Apiah.
Dr. Anaba revealed that many victims had suffered broken bones, and some remained unconscious due to the brutal encounter. The motive behind this disturbing act remains a mystery, intensifying the calls for justice.
Dr. Anaba stressed the urgency of addressing the victims’ plight and uncovering the reasons behind the assault.
“This unprofessional behaviour by the military occurred from 2 am to about 11 am, causing numerous injuries and varying degrees of damage to individuals and properties in Garu and surrounding communities,” he said.
Dr. Anaba condemned the “senseless attacks” on vulnerable individuals during the early hours of the day and urged the government to hold the military accountable for their brutality.
He added that the incident had overwhelmed the local health facility with injured individuals. The broken bones and unconscious victims serve as a grim testament to the severity of the military’s actions.
Community leaders, including Dr. Thomas Anaba, are demanding a thorough, impartial, and swift investigation. They emphasised the importance of ensuring that the responsible parties are held accountable for their actions.
