Anthony Adongo Apubeo, a reporter with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) who is based in the Upper East Region, has been named the Education Reporter of the Year for 2022 at the 27th GJA Media Awards held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Accra.

He clinched the award with his feature titled “SDG Four: Parents Must Honor Responsibilities to Prevent Child Marriage.”

Mr. Apubeo also secured two awards at the recently ended 2nd Upper East Regional GJA Awards. He was honored as the Best Tourism and Gender Reporter of the Year.

In his statement to this website, he expressed his gratitude and honor for being recognized by the national GJA. He said, “I’m grateful and honored to be recognized by the national GJA. This is the second time I have won the national GJA Media Awards after the 25th GJA Media Awards held in 2020. It shows that I’m doing something right, which is to impact lives, particularly the vulnerable, and contribute significantly to the growth of society.”

“As a young journalist, I view this as motivation to work even harder to impact lives, give voice to the voiceless, and influence policy decisions to help create the world we all desire. I also see this as a challenge to my colleagues in the region. We have brilliant young journalists in this region with very bright futures, and it is my hope that we will continue to strive together for the best. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me over the years,” he added.

The flagship annual event of the GJA is meant to celebrate professional excellence, with awards in 34 competitive categories up for grabs.
