The Modern City Hotel in Tamale may yet receive the biggest patronage today as Abdul-Razak Failatu, popularly known as Chef Faila, brings her cooking marathon to an end.
Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. During the course of her attempt, she has been cheered on and widely celebrated across the country, receiving massive donations and well-wishes from Ghanaians, including a donation of Ghc30,000 from the Vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia.
Chef Fails prepared traditional Ghanaian meals, blending them favorably with some continental dishes. Before the commencement of her attempt, she stated in a media engagement that the task was a national assignment on behalf of Ghana and its citizens, stressing that, “If I fail, believe me, I have put our president, Ghanaians, people who have supported (and) groomed me, my family, and friends to shame.”
Abdul-Razak’s attempt to break the world record for a cookathon of 119 hours and 57 minutes held by the Irish chef Alan Fisher is widely celebrated in Ghana.
As she brings her attempt to an official close at 10 a.m. later today, it is expected that the Modern City Hotel will be flooded with guests who would like to catch one final glimpse of the celebrated chef.
