A gruesome murder has shocked residents of the Bolgatanga Municipality this week. Alhassan Azumah, the Deputy Registrar of Bolgatanga Technical University, was found murdered in Sokabisi, a suburb of Bolgatanga, Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) of the Upper East Region condemned the “dastardly act” in a press release on January 22, 2024 signed by the Secretary of REGSEC, Alhaji Abubakar Inusah, on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu.

They urged the public to remain calm as a full-scale investigation is launched to get to the bottom of this mysterious killing.

There is concern Azumah’s murder could be linked to the ongoing conflict between two factions in Bawku. REGSEC cautioned against allowing this dispute to spill over into Bolgatanga and surrounding areas.

Security agencies have been instructed to identify gathering places for the Bawku factions within the municipality. These locations will be disbanded, with arrests and prosecutions of wanted criminals and suspects affiliated with the groups.
