Upper East Region records highest inflation rate in northern Ghana

The Upper East Region has the highest inflation rate among the five regions in northern Ghana. This is according to the January 2024 Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The Upper East Region recorded a combined food and non-food inflation rate of 34.8 percent. The Northern Region followed with a rate of 30.4 percent. The North East Region recorded a rate of 27.6 percent.

The Upper West Region and Savannah regions recorded inflation rates of 26.5 and 22.6 percent, respectively.

The national average inflation rate stands at 23.5 percent.

This rate of inflation for January 2024 is the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) over the twelve-month period, from January 2023 to January 2024. The monthly change rate for January 2024 is 2.0 percent.

The food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation rate recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 27.1 percent in January 2024. The non-food group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 20.5 percent in January 2024.
