Dr. Bawumia’s appointment of Dr. Joshua Makubu signals commitment to disability inclusion – PWDs

The appointment of Dr. Joshua Makubu as the Campaign Coordinator for Persons with Disability and Special Needs has been described by Concerned Persons with Disability as a pivotal step towards advancing their rights and participation in Ghanaian society.

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate in a move towards fostering inclusivity and empowerment for individuals with disabilities in Ghana had appointed Dr. Makubu as the Campaign Coordinator for Persons with Disability and Special Needs.

In a press statement signed by 15 regional spokespersons for the Concerned Persons with Disability, the members hailed Dr. Bawumia’s decision as a significant milestone in their ongoing struggle for recognition and equal opportunities. They believe that Dr. Makubu’s appointment will not only amplify their voices but also serve as a catalyst for positive change in policies and programs aimed at addressing the needs of persons with disabilities across the country.

“We commend His Excellency the Vice President of Ghana and his campaign team for recognizing the importance of prioritizing the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities by appointing Hon. Dr. Joshua Makubu to this critical position. This demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible Ghana for all citizens.”

The statement indicated that Dr. Makubu, the immediate past Oti Regional Minister is vested with extensive experience and dedication to advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities which make him a highly qualified candidate for the role.

While declaring their unflinching support for Dr. Joshua Makubu and the Vice President’s office in advancing policies and initiatives that promote the rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities, the Concerned Persons with disability urged the appointee to be responsive and collaborative with organizations of persons with disabilities and individuals with disabilities to come out with the real issues affecting persons with disabilities and tabled before policymakers to achieve sustainable development goals, political and economic aspirations.
