Dr. Samuel Boakye-Boateng, the Upper East Regional Health Director, has announced that the region has recorded zero malaria deaths for the past three years, thus in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

“It is refreshing to know that the Ghana Health Service and, for that matter, the National Malaria Elimination Program is doing very well. I am happy to announce that, for the past three years, nobody has died from malaria, whether a small boy, small girl, or grown-up.”

Dr. Boakye-Boateng disclosed this remarkable achievement during the opening ceremony of the 2023 performance review session of the Upper East Regional Health Services held in Bolgatanga. The two-day ongoing review is under the theme “Achieving Universal Health Coverage through Health System Strengthening”.

Dr. Boakye-Boateng attributed the success in malaria prevention and control to a combination of strategies, including robust surveillance, effective case management, community engagement, and widespread distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders and the dedication of healthcare workers in achieving this milestone.
