Health professional says brushing of teeth in the evening is more important than morning routine

Physician Assitant at the Bongo Hospital in the Upper East Region, Emmanuel Agana Ayamga, has emphasized the significance of evening brushing over morning brushing for optimal dental hygiene.

According to Mr. Ayamga, while brushing twice daily remains beneficial, prioritizing the evening brushing routine holds greater importance for maintaining oral health.

“By diligently brushing before bedtime, people can mitigate the risks associated with bacterial growth and decay, consequently safeguarding their oral well-being. This period allows for a more focused and meticulous removal of food particles and plaque, which will prevent the accumulation of these particles overnight,” he said.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayamga further asserted that the evening presents an opportune time for thorough dental care due to reduced or minimal oral activities, unlike during the busy hours of the day.

Mr. Ayamga stressed the importance of employing a soft-bristled toothbrush as opposed to a hard-bristled one.

He explained that a soft toothbrush offers gentler yet effective cleaning, minimizing the likelihood of enamel erosion and gum irritation.

This recommendation, he said, aligns with the overarching goal of promoting gentle dental care practices that prioritize long-term oral health outcomes.

He encouraged people to reassess their dental habits and prioritize consistent evening brushing as a cornerstone of their daily routine.
