The Member of Parliament for the Builsa South constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Clement Apaak, has urged health professionals to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of some energy drinks on kidney health.

According to the legislator, the misuse and abuse of certain energy drinks prevalent in local markets could be significant contributors to the rising incidence of kidney diseases among young people.

“The truth to be told, some of these energy drinks in the local markets are leading contributors to some of the kidney diseases these young ones are battling with. The fact is, most people are not aware of the danger some of these beverages can cause them and will usually drink up to five or six a day. So sad, I must say,” he added.

“We need to conscientize efforts based on advocacy,” he added, “from the health perspective to that of the lawmakers in the country.”

Dr. Apaak made these comments on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, when he made a cash donation of GHC 5,000.00 in support of the establishment of a much-needed Dialysis Center at the Upper East Regional Hospital.

Dr. Apaak, known for his unwavering commitment to community development initiatives, reiterated his dedication to ensuring the success of the center and pledged continued support to its frontrunners.

Emmanuel Akatibo, the Physician Specialist who spearheaded the campaign for a Dialysis Center in the region, extended heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Apaak for his generous donation.

Acknowledging the significance of the contribution, Akatibo emphasized that the funds would play a pivotal role in advancing the establishment of the much-needed center.

He assured the legislator that every bit of the donated cash would be judiciously utilized to ensure maximum impact in addressing the healthcare needs of the community.
