The Upper East Region has recorded the highest number of children born with doubtful paternity in Ghana for the year 2022, according to the 2022 statistical report released by the Births and Deaths Registry.
Out of the 29,649 births recorded in the region in 2022, a total of 328 children, representing 0.8 percent of the total births, were reported to have doubtful paternity. This means that the identity of the fathers of these children was not established and recorded during the birth registration process.
This revelation was made in the Births and Deaths Registry’s annual statistical report, which provides comprehensive data on births and deaths across the country.
Followed closely is the Central region, with 0.7% of births falling under the doubtful paternity category.
In contrast, certain regions of Ghana such as the Upper West, Bono East, Ashanti, Savannah, Northern, and North East regions recorded the least doubtful paternity cases of 0.1 percent, an indication that 99.9%, of children born in these regions have known paternity.
