To mark his birthday, which falls on June 23rd, and contribute towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, Dr. Emmanuel Bortey Borketey, Founder and CEO of Charger Limited, has commissioned a borehole in the Zaari community in the Garu district of the Upper East region.
This initiative aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030.
Edward Anafo Abambila, the Upper East Regional representative of Charger Limited, who spoke on behalf of Dr. Borketey at the commissioning ceremony, indicated that the provision of the borehole aligns with the company’s commitment to achieving SDG 6.
“We understand how crucial water is in sustaining life, promoting health, and driving economic activities. Today’s event is not just about the physical act of providing a borehole; it is about reinforcing our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 6, which is to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030,” he stated.
According to Mr. Anafo, water scarcity remains a significant issue in many parts of Ghana, including the Upper East Region, which often leads to numerous challenges, including health problems, reduced agricultural productivity, and impediments to education. “By providing this borehole, Charger Limited aims to alleviate some of these challenges and contribute to a future where everyone has access to safe and clean water,” he added.
He emphasized that the commissioning of the borehole is a testament to Charger Limited’s principle that businesses must play an active role in addressing societal challenges. “We are not just here to do business; we are here to make a positive impact. The borehole is just the beginning. We have more initiatives lined up to support and uplift our communities,” Mr. Anafo assured.
He expressed gratitude to the community members and partners who supported the construction of the borehole. He entreated them to use the borehole wisely and maintain it to become a source of health, prosperity, and joy for many years to come.
On behalf of the people of Zaari, the Assemblyman for the area, Mahama Kassim, expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the new borehole would significantly improve the community’s access to clean water and enhance their overall quality of life.
“Our situation was unbearable, and people had to commute long distances to access water. During the rainy season, they couldn’t cross the stream to fetch water and were compelled to depend on the stream. We want to assure you that we will make good use of this borehole, and we pray that the company will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he assured.
Charger Limited, producer of Happy Man Bitters, Black Legend Coffee Gin, and HM Life Mixture, an immune booster, on June 15, 2024, commissioned a similar borehole for the chief and people of the Nabango community in the Kassena-Nankana West district as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts to support and develop the communities where they operate.
