In a bid to foster positive social change and promote intellectual development among the youth, the 2023 Ghana Most Beautiful finalist Mba Rejoice Aduanige has established a foundation known as Nongre.
The foundation’s maiden initiative is a regional inter-schools debate competition, aimed at encouraging critical thinking, effective communication, and leadership skills among Senior High School students in the Upper East region.
The debate competition, scheduled to take place on July 27th, 2024, will bring together students from eight selected schools in the region. Participants will engage in thought-provoking discussions on various topics, including education, health, chieftaincy, and sustainable development.
In her speech, Miss Aduanige, founder of the Nongre Foundation, said the Foundation seeks to empower the youth to become active contributors to the development of the region and the country at large. According to her, she believes that harnessing their potential will create a brighter future for all.
“Our beautiful region has also been plagued with challenges, including social discord, environmental degradation, and barriers to education that hinder the potential of our youth. These challenges demand our collective action and our unwavering commitment. Permit me to say that the Nongre Foundation seeks to address these issues holistically. Our mission is to drive positive social change within our communities by fostering inter-ethnic peace, tackling environmental challenges, and empowering our youth through education. We also seek to create a sustainable, inclusive, and harmonious world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to a better future.”
Miss Aduanige called for support through donations, volunteerism, and partnerships to make sure her dream comes to reality.
Speaking on behalf of the Upper East Regional Director of Education, Bright Lawo, Madam Alice Ayine commended the initiative saying it will boost performance.
The President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Chiana Pio, Pe Ditundini Adiali Ayagitim III, while describing education as a critical tool for addressing socio-economic issues, stated that his outfit is fully committed to supporting Miss Aduanige and her foundation to achieve its goal. According to the paramount chief of the Chiana traditional area, he believes the initiative can be of great benefit to the students in the future.
“With the launch of this Initiative today, we hope to create platforms through which we can actively and collectively facilitate the empowerment of our youth across diverse communities. This initiative seeks to give the youth a choice, voice, and tools with which they can walk into the future with their heads held high. As a house, we are convinced that under these concerted efforts, a platform is created for our students to use as a springboard to become change agents that will drive a message of transformation. We cannot, however, achieve this on a silver platter. Each of the stakeholder institutions must be committed to their respective roles for us to realize our goal.”
While expressing his commitment to the inter-schools debate initiative by the Nongre Foundation, speaking on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister Alhaji Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, Alhaji Abubakar Inusah, the Chief Director of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, called on students to take advantage of the debate initiative, which he said will help shape their future.
