The Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East region, Andrew Atariwini, has asked handlers of the party’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to be more tactful in managing his public statements.
Addressing recent controversies surrounding Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, on the Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Atariwini asked the public to view the comment in a certain context.
“It was just a passive comment,” he said, suggesting that Napo’s remarks were made in a moment of excitement rather than as a deliberate policy stance.
“Everything he said that day was out of excitement,” Mr. Atariwini reiterated, implying that Napo’s words may have been exaggerated due to the fervor of the moment. He further noted that insiders close to Napo have suggested that such statements might be part of a broader strategic approach employed by the candidate.
“We are looking up to him to do whatever he can to garner votes in the Ashanti Region,” he said, highlighting Napo’s pivotal role in securing electoral support from one of the party’s key strongholds.
However, Andrew acknowledged that adjusting to the rigors of political communication might take time for Napo. “It will take time for him to adjust,” Andrew admitted, underscoring the need for Napo to refine his messaging and approach as the election campaign intensifies.
Meanwhile, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has apologized for his comments about Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.
In a brief statement, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, explained that his comments were his personal opinion and were not intended to disrespect Kwame Nkrumah or any former president.
