Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned the statement made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly referred to as Napo, made a statement comparing the governments of the first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and the current president, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Abdallah Salifu accused Napo of displaying arrogance and disrespecting the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a revered figure in Ghanaian history.
He vehemently disagreed with Napo’s assertion that President Akufo-Addo’s tenure surpasses that of Kwame Nkrumah.
“I can mention uncountable achievements of President Kwame Nkrumah. You don’t compare this chaff of a government to Nkrumah, please. With all due respect,” Mr. Abdallah Salifu retorted, emphasizing the legacy and achievements of Nkrumah’s leadership in Ghana’s history.
The critique extended beyond political rhetoric, with Mr. Abdallah Salifu accusing Napo of disrespecting traditional authority. He noted that Napo ignored advice from a chief, an action seen as disregarding traditional protocols.
He pointed to internal dissent within the NPP, where some members reportedly voiced concerns about Napo’s appointment.
Turning to the NDC’s own vice presidential candidate, Mr. Abdallah highlighted confidence in their nominee, describing her as experienced and capable. He underscored the absence of controversy surrounding the appointment of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as running mate, in contrast to the contentious reception Napo’s appointment initially received within his own party ranks.
