The Wa municipality in the Upper West region has been rocked by a series of disturbing serial killings, causing widespread fear and prompting urgent calls for attention.
The details emerged during a recent interview on A1 Radio with journalist Rafiq Adams, who shed light on the escalating crisis gripping the community.
“There are serial killings happening in the Wa municipality,” Mr. Adams revealed. He pointed out that while several killings were recorded in 2022, the violence subsided temporarily only to resurface again this year, leaving residents on edge.
He noted that the gravity of the situation was underscored by a recent demonstration on Saturday, where concerned youth took to the streets to demand immediate action from the government.
He said the recent incidents paint a grim picture of the insecurity plaguing Wa, stating that just yesterday, a bus conductor had been slaughtered. Mr. Adams said that despite efforts by law enforcement, including the arrest of some individuals in 2023, uncertainty looms as to the progress of the investigations.
“People are living in fear. They don’t want to do night work because of fear,” Mr. Adams lamented, indicating the profound impact of the killings on daily life in Wa.
Amidst the escalating crisis, there is a mounting call for decisive action from the government to address the security challenges facing Wa. The demonstrations and public outcry underscore the urgent need for increased police presence, thorough investigations, and measures to reassure frightened residents and bring perpetrators to book.
