The contractor working on the Bolga-Sherigu-Naaga road in the Upper East Region has given a firm assurance to the public that the road will be completed before the end of the year.
The road was awarded to Araco Construction Limited in 2018; however, the contractor moved to the site in 2019.
It was expected that the 30.85-kilometer road would be completed in 18 months according to the Ministry of Roads and Highways. Five years down the line, the road construction has not been completed.
When A1 Radio’s Joshua Asaah contacted the Project Manager of Araco Construction Limited, Isaac Aayire, he attributed the delay in completing the road to the government’s delay in releasing funds for its completion.
The other challenge, he said, included the refusal of the community members of Sherigu to allow the construction firm to fetch gravel in the community for the road construction.
“Due to some challenges we faced, we were unable to complete in the 18 months, but those challenges have been resolved. The challenges came from the community, the government, and our side, which delayed the contract. Some of the issues we faced from the people were as a result of getting gravel, and from the part of the government, we can’t work without finances, so if there are issues of finances, it delays the project. But all these challenges have been resolved,” he stated.
However, he gave the assurance that the road would be completed before the end of the year 2024. “Currently, we are expecting to complete the work by the end of the year. We are expecting to see the bitumen on the road, from Bolga to Naga,” he assured.
The contractor, who is taking 5 years to complete the road that was supposed to be completed in 18 months, gave a firm assurance saying, “Take me by my words, we will complete the road before the end of the year.”
The Bolga-Sherigu-Naaga road project, which has been plagued by delays, is expected to greatly enhance connectivity and accessibility within the Upper East Region when completed. The completion of this road is anticipated to facilitate smoother transportation of goods and services, boost local trade, and improve the daily commute for residents.
