The chiefs and people of the Sirigu community in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region have built and commissioned a new Fire Service Post and Ambulance Station. The projects were funded by the community residents.

Spearheaded by their paramount chief, Naba Atugudeeya Bugum Zoti Ko’om Roland Akwara III, the community-driven project addresses the urgent need for a fire post following a number of devastating fire outbreaks in the area.

The newly constructed facilities feature a garage for fire tenders and ambulances, offices for fire service personnel, and rest areas for the staff.

These structures are a significant upgrade for the community, promising improved emergency response times and better protection for residents.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the paramount chief emphasized that the new facilities symbolize the community’s commitment to safety and well-being.

“In our pursuit of a safer and more prepared Sirigu, today we also inaugurated the Fire Service Station and National Ambulance Station. These facilities are more than mere structures; they symbolize our commitment to the safety and well-being of every member of our community,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to the authorities who supported the project, acknowledging their dedication to the welfare of Sirigu.

“To the authorities who have made this possible, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your dedication to our welfare is evident in this monumental achievement. We assure you of our full support for your personnel and the judicious use of these vital facilities. Your commitment is our commitment, and together, we will ensure that these resources are used to protect and save lives,” he said.

Addressing the community, the chief called for responsible use and vigilance.

“To our community, let us embrace this new chapter with responsibility and vigilance. These stations are a testament to our collective effort to safeguard our people. Let us honor this commitment by using these resources wisely and ensuring they serve the purpose for which they were created,” he added.

The Upper East Regional Commander of the Ghana Fire Service, DCFO Anthony Gyasi Boateng, commended the community for their initiative.

He assured the chiefs and people that a fire commander would be stationed at the new post.

Additionally, 66 community fire volunteers have undergone three months of training to assist the service in the community.
