Fawzia Yakubu Abagnamah, the Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed optimism that the party’s proposed Women’s Bank initiative will significantly boost Ghanaian women’s businesses when established.

While addressing the media on Sunday, July 7, 2024, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, announced that about one million women will benefit from the National Women’s Bank he plans to establish if elected. The initiative, he said, is part of his agenda to promote gender equality in the country.

Speaking to Joshua Asaah on the ‘Zina Yela’ program on A1 Radio, Madam Abagnamah emphasized the importance of empowering women economically, stating that the Women’s Bank will provide much-needed financial support and resources to women-owned businesses.

“The Women’s Bank our father spoke about is a game-changer for Ghanaian women. It will provide access to affordable credit and mentorship, enabling women to grow their businesses and contribute to the country’s economic growth. The bank will be fully managed by women because you know women are always comfortable dealing with colleague women than men,” Madam Abagnamah said.

Madam Abagnamah noted that the NDC’s Women’s Bank initiative is a key component of the party’s manifesto, aimed at addressing the financial inclusion gap and promoting gender equality in entrepreneurship.

The NDC Women’s Organizer urged women in the region to support the initiative and work together to make it a reality.
