Lead Convenor for the establishment of the Upper East Regional Renal Dialysis Centre at the Regional Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Akatibo, has appealed to residents, well-meaning individuals, and organizations who pledged to contribute towards the construction of the facility to redeem their pledges immediately.
Dr. Akatibo stated that redeeming these pledges would support the management of the facility in purchasing additional equipment to alleviate the burden on the two functional machines currently in use.
In an interview with Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, Dr. Akatibo noted that the facility had begun full operation but could only rely on two machines due to a problem with the third machine, which is being repaired.
Currently, the facility attends to three patients a day, with each patient requiring about four hours of treatment. Dr. Akatibo explained that more functional machines would enable patients to receive quicker treatment.
Each dialysis session at the facility costs GH¢450, which includes the dialysis process and a collection of drugs.
