Dr. Hassan Ayariga, leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), has expressed concern about the increasingly expensive nature of campaigns, describing his own campaign as “very capital-intensive.”
Mr. Ayariga explained that this situation has arisen because Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is allegedly using state funds to induce voters.
“People like the Vice President are using so much money to lure people to vote for them. You can imagine what happens when the Vice President has access to taxpayer money and is going around distributing money and vehicles to people to gain their votes,” he said.
“What do you think I can do? I don’t have these resources from the state,” he added.
According to Mr. Ayariga, due to this undue advantage, the Vice President should resign to ensure the presidential race is a fair contest.
The leader of the APC plans to present a petition to the Speaker of Parliament by Friday, advocating for the enactment of a law that bars Vice Presidents from holding office while seeking the presidency.
