The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has called on the people of the Upper East Region to reconsider their voting pattern in the upcoming election and support the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Amin Adam emphasized that despite the region’s consistent loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), it has not seen the desired level of development. He was speaking at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga Central when the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, rounded up his constituency-focused campaign in the North.
“I have a simple message for you [residents of Upper East]. This year’s election, we have to change course. We cannot continue to vote for the NDC and yet they give us nothing; we have to change our voting pattern this year,” he asserted.
Dr. Amin Adam pointed out that the Upper East Region has always received its fair share of development under NPP administrations, even though the region has not historically voted in large numbers for the party. He expressed regret that the region has not been fair to the NPP, which has brought tangible development while continuing to support the NDC, which he claims has led to poverty and underdevelopment in the region.
“2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, Upper East Region has given the region to Mahama all the time and leaving your other child, Dr. Bawumia. Are we fair? If you give birth to children and you give one child more attention and leave the other child, is it fair? And on top of this, the child you have been giving the region to is a child who has not been performing well. Mahama has not performed well. Mahama has brought you poverty, underdevelopment, and retrogression. So, why do we continue to give the region to him? Your child who has been giving you development, you are not voting for him. Are we fair? But we have to change this year because we have to reward the one who is performing well,” Dr. Amin Adam stated.
Dr. Amin Adam mentioned the Free SHS policy, improvements to the National Health Insurance Scheme, the One Village One Dam initiative, the One District One Factory program, and the distribution of free laptops to Senior High School students as among several key initiatives under the NPP government. He argued that these policies have directly benefited the people of the Upper East Region and should be a compelling reason to vote for the NPP.
“The NPP has brought meaningful development to the Upper East Region. It is time for the people to recognize this and vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as president and reject the NDC and Mahama,” Dr. Amin Adam urged.
