Cyclist James Kumbeni, who rode 815 km from Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital, to the Greater Accra Region, has reiterated his commitment to using cycling as a means for social change.
Just weeks after #RideBolga, a climate action event, Mr. Kumbeni is preparing for what he calls the Zebila Peace Ride.
The Zebila Peace Ride focuses on promoting peace within the constituency and its environs, particularly in anticipation of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mr. Kumbeni told A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show that the Zebila ride is a precursor to a subsequent ride in Bawku, an area affected by a protracted chieftaincy conflict.
“We all know how important peace is. Without peace, many activities cannot proceed. My team and I are looking at how we can bring people together around Zebila. The ride is organized by Keekee Cycling Konnect and African Peace Consult. We plan to move on to Bawku after this ride,” he said.
The ride is expected to start in the Zebila township and will eventually end at the hospital, where a donation will be made to the facility.
Zebila Peace Ride is slated for Saturday, August 10, 2024.
