Go North Medical Outreach is organizing a health training and diagnostic exercise for children with neurodevelopmental disorders in the Bolgatanga Municipality. The program aims to address developmental disorders such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and speech and hearing challenges among children.

Focusing on speech challenges, speech therapist Esther Quarcoopome, in an interview on A1 Radio, highlighted that communication difficulties often affect both children and adults, particularly those who have experienced strokes or head injuries. “When it comes to communication challenges, they mainly affect children and adults who have had strokes or head injuries,” she said.

She mentioned that parents and caregivers attending the program will receive guidance on interacting effectively with their children, utilizing available resources to aid their development, and diagnosing various speech problems. “We’ll educate them on how to use what they have around them to help the kids,” she said.

Madam Quarcoopome also emphasized the importance of blending medical care with spiritual support, advising parents to seek medical attention alongside their spiritual practices. She stressed the significance of allowing children to engage in play with their peers as a crucial aspect of their development and underlined the essential role of caregiver interaction in a child’s growth.

Additionally, she encouraged pregnant women to attend regular prenatal check-ups, adhere to prescribed medications, and follow medical advice to minimize risks to their child. She advised them to stay informed and ask questions throughout their pregnancy to ensure the best outcomes for their babies.

The program is scheduled to take place from July 31 to August 2, 2024, at the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga.
