Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to convert the Yameriga E-Block into a training college.
The Vice President made this comment while engaging party faithful in Talensi, as part of his Upper East Regional campaign tour.
“I know that in Talensi here, you need a training college. We are completing the E-block at Yameriga, and under my presidency, we will do a specialized training college at that facility and expand it,” he said.
The Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the NDC, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show in response to the VEEP’s comment, said it is a welcome idea, stressing that “as for the college, we need it.”
Mr. Abdallah Salifu recalled that BONABOTO had earlier made a push for a college of education, also stating that both political parties had shown interest in building the facility for the central portions of the region.
“In fact, BONABOTO met the now running mate to President Mahama when she was education minister, and they had done a lot of work with regards to how they can establish a college of education for the central block. This government too, I think BONABOTO has pushed them. Both parties have shown we want to build a college.”
“If today, Dr. Bawumia wants to build a college using the e-block, then thank God. These structures you see there are for government,” he said.
Mr. Abdallah Salifu explained that he was happy the Vice President had finally come to the realization that the E-blocks are relevant pieces of educational infrastructure.
“I am very happy he spoke about it. I am also happy that now he himself recognizes that what his senior brother, Mr. Mahama, envisaged years back, was useful. There is a saying that what your father will see sitting down, you the young one, if you climb a tree, you would not see it.”
