Videos circulating on social media show some young individuals, who have identified themselves as members and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), burning party paraphernalia.

The young people in the video could be heard expressing their clear disappointment about the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, not being able to make a stop in Natinga.

The MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has since responded to the matter, calling for calm.

In a statement shared with A1 Radio, Mr. Ayariga said, “I have seen a video of some supporters of the NDC in Natinga angrily burning NDC paraphernalia. The anger of the youth stems from my inability to ensure that the flagbearer stopped at grandfather Gumah’s residence in Natinga as part of his campaign in the Bawku Central Constituency.”

“I appreciate the legitimate concerns of the youth and would like to apologize to them for this unfortunate incident which was occasioned by time constraints. We had done four stops even though we were allocated two and had far exceeded the time allotted to Bawku.”

He assured the people of the area that Mr. Mahama would visit Natinga as the flagbearer’s campaign continues.

“We appreciate their love for the party and desire to host the flagbearer. I wish to assure them that this is just the beginning of the campaign. The flagbearer, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, will surely visit Natinga in due course.”

The former president is on the second day of his four-day tour of the Upper East Region. Mr. Mahama has since visited Bawku Central, Tempane, Garu, and Pusiga.
