Former President and Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to build a state-of-the-art sports stadium in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region, if elected president.
This announcement was made during his four-day tour of the Upper East Region.
Recognizing the region’s wealth of athletic talent, the former president believes that developing and utilizing this potential requires a modern stadium.
“A modern sports stadium for Bolgatanga is essential because, in sports, you can create jobs. We have a lot of talent here, including young athletes like Michael Essien and Azumah Nelson. We need a modern stadium where they can train and realize their full potential,” Mahama said.
Mr. Mahama condemned the current government’s astroturf fields as inadequate and promised to construct a state-of-the-art sports complex that meets global standards and provides the best facilities for local athletes and spectators.
“We are not talking about the substandard facilities they are building in some places; we are talking about a modern stadium with all the necessary amenities,” he added.
In his bid to create a Ghana that meets the aspirations of its people, Mahama is urging Ghanaians to elect him president in 2024. He also pledged to revive the Bolga Airport project, which the current government left unfinished.
