In a fiery response to claims by former President John Dramani Mahama, Bampil Badeabo Moses, the NPP Upper East Regional 2nd Vice Chairman, has called out the NDC flagbearer for allegedly misleading the people of Garu and Tempane with false statements about a district hospital he claims to have initiated.
During his campaign tour in the Upper East Region, Mr. Mahama accused the current NPP government of abandoning a district hospital project in Garu-Tempane that he claimed to have started. However, Mr. Bampil has dismissed these claims as outright fabrications, stating that not a single block was ever laid during Mahama’s presidency.
“As I write, the bare land site is now a bush begging for the hospital building. It is strange and mind-boggling to hear the same President Mahama claiming falsely after several years of his failed promises and deception to the good people of Garu that he started building a hospital for Garu and that the NPP government led by H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refused to complete it. Mr. former President Mahama, where is your Garu District hospital you claim was almost ready for commissioning? Clearly, you can see that either the former president was misled to make those statements or he actually engaged in his old tricks of peddling falsehood to the people of Garu. The former president is struggling for relevance in the eyes of his NDC followers in Garu,” Mr. Bampil stated.
The NPP 2nd Vice Chairman, in a statement to A1 Radio, provided a detailed timeline, asserting that while the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ administration first announced plans for the hospital in 2011, the project never saw any actual development under Mahama’s leadership. According to him, despite being mentioned in multiple state addresses, the hospital remained a “barren plot of land.”
In stark contrast, Mr. Bampil highlighted the NPP government’s ongoing efforts under the Agenda 111 initiative, which includes the construction of two separate hospitals in Garu and Tempane Districts. According to him, the Garu Hospital is already 85% complete and is set to be commissioned by the end of December 2024.
As the December elections approach, Mr. Bampil urged the people of Garu to “vote wisely” for H.E Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as President and Madam Georgina Laadi Azumah as Member of Parliament to continue the massive developmental projects initiated by the government in Garu.
