Builsa South DCE addresses delays associated with abandoned Fumbisi-Uwasi road project

The Builsa South District Chief Executive (DCE), Daniel Kwame Gariba, has admitted that  progress on the Fumbisi-Uwasi road has been minimal over the past three years. “It is true that the road, which we expected to see progress on quickly, has not received the necessary attention,” he stated when he spoke to A1 Radio.

Mr. Gariba blamed the previous contractor, Samba Construction Limited for the delay.

“Sometimes the government has the goodwill to help the people, but we end up with the wrong contractors who derail the government’s good intentions. Ultimately, we are still held responsible because we awarded the project to that contractor.”

He acknowledged the frustration over the lack of progress and explained that the delays were partly due to issues with the contractor, who failed to meet obligations despite multiple warnings, leading to the eventual termination of the contract in 2022.

The DCE emphasized that efforts are currently underway to find a new contractor to resume and complete the project. He noted that the regional Feeder Roads Engineer is actively involved in this process and is working diligently to move the project forward.

“As we speak, the regional Feeder Roads Engineer, who is keen on ensuring the road is completed, is working feverishly to secure a contractor who will be willing to take on the project and complete the road for us,” Mr. Gariba said.

However, he added that while he cannot provide a specific timeline for when work will resume and the project will be completed, the authorities are committed to resolving the issue and will provide updates as soon as a new contractor is appointed.

“In due course, we will announce the new contractor who will be working on the road,” he stated. “I can’t provide a timeline right now, but I want to assure you that we are working on it,” he concluded.
