The Upper East Region has taken delivery of 117 road construction equipment, set to be distributed among all 15 Municipal and District Assemblies. This move is part of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), aimed at ensuring that local communities benefit from improved road infrastructure.

The equipment includes motor graders, backhoes, rollers, wheel loaders, bulldozers, tipper trucks, concrete mixers, and water tankers, which will enable the assemblies to undertake various road construction and maintenance projects. This is expected to enhance connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the region.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, during the inspection of the equipment, expressed excitement about the development, stating that the equipment would help address the region’s longstanding road infrastructure challenges. Dr. Bin Salih emphasized that the DRIP program is a key initiative to help bridge the infrastructure gap and stimulate local economic development.

“I believe strongly that under the DRIP, most of our roads would be improved upon, and aside from the improvement in the roads sector, it will also create employment avenues. Each of the assemblies is expected to employ 30 operators, and if you multiply the 30 by the 15 assemblies that we have in the Upper East region, that will give us 450,” he said.

With the new equipment, the Municipal and District Assemblies are now better equipped to tackle various road projects, ensuring that communities across the Upper East Region benefit from good road infrastructure. Dr. Bin Salih mentioned that a committee would be set up to manage the equipment and ensure good maintenance.
