Since its elevation to a technical university under the Technical Universities Act 2016, Bolgatanga Technical University has been expanding and restructuring its curriculum to meet modern community and industry standards.
Additionally, the technical university has strengthened its commitment to providing career-focused training and research to students.
The Pro Vice Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU), Professor Peter Osei Boamah, made this statement during his appearance on the Daybreak Upper East Show today, Monday, August 26, 2024.
The university now emphasizes higher education in engineering, science, and technology, as well as technical and vocational training, applied arts, and related disciplines following its conversion from a polytechnic to a technical university in 2020. “It was granted technical university status in April 2020 in accordance with the Technical Universities Act 2016, Act 122,” he noted.
He mentioned that the university operates from two campuses: Bukere Campus and Sumbrungu Campus, where the main administration is based. “We operate from two campuses: Bukere Campus and Sumbrungu Campus, where the main administration is located,” he said.
Professor Osei Boamah outlined that BTU features 16 departments, including Marketing, Secretaryship and Management Studies, Accountancy, Procurement and Logistics Management, Industrial Art, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical and Automobile Engineering, among others. He added that the institution offers programs such as Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), diplomas, and degrees across these fields.
He noted that, beyond BTU’s educational programs, the university engages in various community services, including catering, auto repair, welding and fabrication, and operates a dedicated egg center that provides fresh eggs and meat to the general public. “We offer catering services, auto repair, welding and fabrication services, and an egg center where we provide fresh eggs as well as meat,” he said.
Professor Osei Boamah emphasized that these services complement the university’s educational mission, benefiting both students and the local community.
