Overlord of Manyoro appeals for help as 3 key bridges collapse in Kassena-Nankana area

The Overlord of the Manyoro traditional area in the Kassena Nankana Municipal of the Upper East Region, His Royal Majesty Pe Dr. Atudiwe Atudipaare Manchi III, is calling on philanthropists and non-governmental organizations to assist in constructing at least one of the bridges that link the community to its capital town, Navrongo.

The community is surrounded by three adjoining rivers, which were previously bridged. However, due to torrential rainfall over the years, two of these bridges have collapsed.

The collapse of the Navio Bridge has made the route from Manyoro to Paga inaccessible, and the collapse of the Gumongo Bridge has rendered the route from Manyoro to Navrongo via Gumongo impassable. The only remaining access to the district capital, Navrongo, is through Sirigu to Kandiga and then to Navrongo.

In an exclusive interview with A1 News, Pe Clement Atudipare, who spoke on behalf of the Overlord, said that despite several appeals to successive governments for assistance, no help has been forthcoming. He is now appealing to NGOs and philanthropists for support.

According to Pe Clement Atudipare, the situation has become life-threatening, particularly during the rainy season. He stated, “It is a significant challenge for this community, especially during the rainy season. For instance, the people of Gumongo, a subsection of Manyoro, are cut off from business activities. The Gumongo Bridge, constructed in the 1970s, has deteriorated. We have called out to successive governments, but none have been able to come to our aid.”

“We are pleading with any NGO or organization that can help to kindly do so. The Gumongo Bridge is down, making travel to Navrongo impossible, and the people of Gumongo cannot reach us. Manyoro Market is one of the largest markets in the municipality, second only to Navrongo’s. On market days, the volume of people and business transactions is substantial. In terms of health, people lose their lives because they cannot reach hospitals in Navrongo or Paga, especially during the rainy season. Even our last hope, the bridge to Sirigu, is in poor condition. If that bridge collapses, we will be left stranded. Please, come to our aid.”
