On Saturday, August 31, 2024, Juliana Awuni was awarded her First Dan Black Belt certificate in Accra, following a successful promotion examination organized by Grandmaster Kim.
The 28-year-old, a Level 200 Physical Education student at the University of Education, Winneba, participated in the promotion test and passed it successfully.
Juliana, who hails from the Upper East Region, began her Taekwondo journey as a white belt student in 2016 under the instruction of Master Jesse Apalazoya, who is now a coach. Both were students at St. John Bosco’s College of Education, Navrongo.
She took part in a series of promotion examinations organized by the Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association, under the guidance and supervision of Master Michael Ayine, and attained her Red Belt certificate.
With this recent achievement, Juliana has become the first and only female to achieve black belt status in the Upper East Region. She is now prepared to teach Taekwondo at any school where she is posted after completing her studies.
Recently, the Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association embarked on a training tour of selected senior and technical schools in Bolgatanga. All indications suggest that the path is clear for the team to start training in these schools, which will provide Juliana with a platform to excel.
