At a stakeholder engagement organized by the Ghana National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Upper East Region, political parties pledged their commitment to using their campaign platforms to promote road safety practices among their supporters.

The event, which took place at the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, was attended by representatives from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

The engagement centered around the newly developed Road Safety Code of Practice for Political Parties, which was prepared by the NRSA in collaboration with key partners. The Code is designed to guide political parties, politicians, and their supporters in adopting and promoting road safety measures during election-related activities.

In a unanimous agreement, the political parties present emphasized that all lives matter and must be protected, particularly during campaign seasons. They expressed their commitment to integrating road safety messages into their campaign speeches and activities to ensure the safety of both their supporters and the general public.

The NRSA’s initiative of creating the Road Safety Code of Practice for Political Party Activities is part of an effort to reduce the risks associated with increased vehicular movement and rallies during election periods. The authority hopes that by engaging political parties directly, the message of road safety will reach a wider audience, contributing to safer roads across the country during the upcoming elections.
