The Upper East Regional Chief Imam, through his spokesperson Mohammed Armiyawu, has pledged to address the growing concern of road accidents through regular messages during Friday Islamic congregational prayers.

The Chief Imam’s commitment to making road safety a central theme in his Friday sermons will contribute to creating awareness among the Muslim community about the importance of road safety and encouraging more vigilant behavior on the roads. Mohammed Armiyawu said this in an address at a recent stakeholders’ briefing on the Road Safety Code of Practice for Political Activities held at the regional coordinating council in Bolgatanga.

“The Regional Chief Imam has asked me to tell the Ghana Road Safety Authority that he is going to make road accidents and the need to be watchful on our roads an integral part of his Friday sermons.”

In addition to his commitment to road safety, the Chief Imam also used the occasion to call on those in positions of authority to desist from using their influence to obstruct justice.

“He’s pleading with all people in authority to discourage the use of protocol to suppress justice. People misbehave on the road, and when they are caught by the law, they tend to use protocol to get their way out. That’s one of the reasons why we are not making progress in controlling road behavior.”

He emphasized the Chief Imam’s strong stance on the issue, noting that he would refuse any personal requests to intervene on behalf of individuals who have violated road safety laws.

“He has taken a bold step and is encouraging all in positions of authority to do the same to help bring sanity to our roads.”

Furthermore, the Chief Imam, through his spokesperson, called on the appropriate authorities to urgently fix the malfunctioning traffic lights along the MTN stretch of the road, highlighting the importance of functional traffic management systems in preventing accidents and ensuring road safety.
