Daniel Dung Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Talensi constituency, has expressed strong optimism about securing a resounding victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Speaking to the media after submitting his nomination forms at the Electoral Commission’s office in Tongo on Wednesday, Mr. Mahama confidently projected that he would win with 99% of the total votes cast.
“If we are going to have a total voter turnout of 39,000 or 40,000, Daniel Mahama and the NDC are going to hit 37,000 to 38,000 votes. They [NPP] are going to get 1 percent and we [NDC] are going to get 99 percent,” he stated.
Mr. Mahama attributed his optimism to his track record as a development-oriented leader and a grassroots figure who is deeply in touch with the needs of his constituents. He emphasized that his ability to connect with the people and address their concerns would be the key to his electoral success.
“By God’s grace, I am going to win with a great margin because the people within Talensi and the nation are not finding the economy easy, and they want change. Besides that, they want somebody who is part of them and is prepared to support Talensi. And I think, by God’s grace, I stand tall in that.”
He made these remarks following a show of massive support from party members and loyalists, who gathered in large numbers to accompany him to the Electoral Commission’s office. He mentioned his track record in providing safe drinking water for communities, education, and improvements in the health sector, which he believes makes him the right person to represent the constituents in parliament.
He also highlighted the 24-hour economy, agricultural mechanization, the Women’s Bank, and free tuition fees for first-year students and persons with disabilities among other policies under the NDC manifesto, which he says would transform the lives of the people of Talensi.
The candidate expressed his gratitude to the party supporters for their unwavering commitment and enthusiasm, which he believes reflects the strength and unity within the NDC in Talensi.
