The parliamentary candidate for Talensi constituency on the ticket of the People’s National Convention, Dr. Wombeogo Michael Namalteng, has described the two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, as useless pertaining to the development of the Talensi constituency.

Dr. Wombeogo noted that the National Democratic Congress has enjoyed significant support from the constituency in terms of votes yet failed to prioritize the developmental needs of the people of Talensi.

He described the governing NPP as a failure, stating that it has refused to give Talensi constituency a befitting hospital and motorable roads despite the huge revenue it is getting from the Talensi district in the form of royalties from the mining companies located in the district.

Speaking on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 radio, Dr. Wombeogo mentioned that Talensi cannot boast of good roads, hospitals, or educational facilities.

“Useless they are. Useless. Useless. Since 1992, Talensi has been housed by the NDC leadership and if you go to Talensi now there’s nothing to write home about. We do not have roads. We do not have schools. We do not have hospitals. It is not a name given to a building that calls it what it must be. Look, the youth of Talensi are suffering in the midst of wealth. There’s nothing to write home about. The NPP, they are holding the district. They are holding the country. There’s nothing to write home about in Talensi.”

“That is why I say it is not about a party. It is about who is committed with a new leadership to add value to the lives of the people. We do not have that person there in Talensi. I would not have been here contesting. There’s no need. Once someone is doing what you want to do and what you can do and then you come in, that would be great. But I tell you, since 2008, you ask the people, we do not have a single road in Talensi. We only have less than three kilometers of road in Talensi from Winkogo to Tongo town. The rest are pathways. Yet, Talensi is the richest district in the whole of Ghana, in the whole of West Africa, based on its natural resources. Why are we poor?”

Dr. Wombeogo pledged to streamline the mining regime in the Talensi constituency to benefit the communities in which the mining companies are located.
