PNC PC concerned over youth poverty in Talensi despite mining wealth

The People’s National Convention (PNC) parliamentary candidate, Dr. Wombeogo Michael Namalteng, has lamented the poor state of development in the constituency despite the area’s wealth from mining activities.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Wombeogo expressed concern over the persistent poverty and suffering of the youth, noting that successive leadership from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed to bring tangible development to Talensi since 1992.

Dr. Wombeogo criticized both major political parties, stating that their leadership has been uncommitted to the real progress of the constituency.

“The growth of Talensi is stagnant under these leaderships. Since 1992, Talensi has been governed by the NDC and NPP, but there is nothing to show for their leadership. It is not about party affiliation but the commitment of leadership, and Talensi has lacked such political commitment in the area,” he said.

He argued that while Talensi is home to significant mining operations, especially with the ongoing extraction of gold and other minerals, the wealth generated from these activities has not translated into development for the local population.

The youth, in particular, continue to face high unemployment and poverty, with many struggling to make ends meet despite the area’s natural resources.

Dr. Wombeogo emphasized that his decision to run for office in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections is motivated by his desire to bring real change to the constituency.

“I’m coming in to provoke the people to action so that we can demand what is right for the good people of Talensi,” he stated.

He stressed that Talensi needs a leader committed to addressing the long-standing issues facing the community and ensuring that the area’s wealth benefits its residents.

The PNC candidate outlined his vision for Talensi, which includes improving infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, and empowering the youth to thrive.

He called on voters to support his candidacy, promising to be a voice for the marginalized and to advocate for the equitable distribution of the area’s resources if elected in 2024.
